I scanned my RSS subscriptions today and found this interesting post from Search Engine Journal:

3 Tools to Export Microformats | Search Engine Journal.

It’s interesting to know there are now easy ways to do microformats, knowing which sites use microformats, and even export microformats.

HTML5 – The Next Generation of HTML

Posted by Jun on 24/01/10 in Web Design

HTML5 is the next major revision of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language), the core markup language of the World Wide Web. The Web Hypertext Application Technology Working Group (WHATWG) started work on the specification in June 2004 under the name Web Applications 1.0.[1] As of October 2009, the specification is in the “Last Call” state at the WHATWG.

HTML5 is the next generation of HTML, the markup language that the web is written in. Its features are slowly being adopted by browsers), and there are a few that have some ramifications for analytics.

Usually, embedding a video into a webpage involves a Flash-based player of some kind or Often this is an easily embeddable player from a site like YouTube. HTML5 is gonna change all this.

Over at the Official Google Blog, Google’s Steven Baker just announced a major change in the way that Google handles search results by including synonyms for some words that may be used in queries, in the post Helping computers understand language.

The deal between the two search giants is now official.  Microsoft will now power Yahoo! search while Yahoo! will become the exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies’ premium search advertisers.

What’s in it for us though? As SEO practitioners, maybe minus 1 search engine to consider. Optimization would now be for 2 big search engines, Google and MicroHoo (whatever they may call it).

For PPC managers though, it poses some questions. Would be AdCenter or Marketing Solutions? What will happen to the PPC campaigns on both Yahoo and Microsoft? Will there be an increase or decrease in CPC, impressions, CTR? What will be the rules? Will there be new ones?

Everything seems to be a wait and see.

Cebu Bloggers Networking Event

Once more, Digital Filipino and PAGCOR are bringing up together the bloggers og Cebu. Agenda for the said event is as follows:

Of course I will be there tonight, hopefully meeting new friends and prospective business partners. :) I will be posting updates about the event on the next day.

Ah! Just when I thought I’ve got things sorted out with the Google Content Network click fraud. Now it’s Yahoo’s content network. Hundreds of clicks from websites without a single conversion. And since Yahoo’s reporting is not as robust as Google’s, I have got no choice but to shut down my Yahoo Content Network ads for the meantime, until I get things cleared. Whew!

The Google Content Network

Posted by Jun on 13/05/09 in Google Adwords

PPC bidding on the Google Content  Network needs more attention than bidding on their Search Network. With search you don’t have to monitor it as much as you have to with the content network. Just this past few days, my CPA was up by 10% while conversion rate dropped by 5%. The source of the problem? The number of non-converting clicks was up by 50%. These clicks came from 100% CTR websites in Google’s Content Network. So, exclude, exclude, exclude. Now my CTR and CPA is back to normal.

Yahoo PPC Reports Have Problems

Posted by User ImageJun on 14/04/09 in Web Analytics

Just before I left the office on Thursday, I was alarmed at how my Yahoo PPC reports looked. Plenty of clicks and no conversion whatsoever. But when I checked the web analytics I’m using where I track all my PPC campaigns, I’m seeing my normal conversion rate for Yahoo. I watched it daily at home with the same result. NO CONVERSION from the Yahoo PPC reports. When I got back to the office yesterday, the problem still persists. I was about to call my Yahoo rep when I found an article about the Yahoo PPC reporting problem. Seems a bad Holy Week for Yahoo PPC reports.
