Diversifying Your Back-Links

Google’s Algorithm change that occurred on “May Day” had webmasters all over the internet in turmoil due to massive drops in rankings and complete chaos in the search engine. There was a couple of things that changed on this day, but one of the most crucial changes was the amount of weight that Google put on exact match domain names in regards to their ranking system. Many webmasters that had a lot of exact match domain names completely lost rankings to many of their sites that day, and one thing was for sure: The days where you could just throw up websites with exact match domain names and virtually no back-links and expect them to rank were over. Google wants you to have a solid foundation of back-links, and they want you to have a diverse set of them.

There are all sorts of back-links that you can get and diversifying the type you target will mean better rankings in Google. Google views a website with only one or two different types of back-links as being somewhat spammy, and this is what you want to avoid. From the Trail – Search Geeks Speak; Google loves links

A poll was conducted at “The Trail” on Google’s stand on links. Well, majority still believes that Google won’t get over links anytime soon. That’s what 64.1% said. Others though believe that caffeine’s existence would change things and thus some believe that Google would soon lean more towards relevance.
